This is the upgraded Alpha OCF (off-center fed) dipole ‘Gorilla Wire’ antenna.
Our engineers are proud to bring you a revolutionary housing that holds both the antenna’s 18 gauge ‘Gorilla Wire’ elements that have a break strength of 250 pounds, and also a re-designed and improved Alpha/W2FMI Guanella current balun, all of which is available in three following three versions:
A) 6-40 Meters, which is 67 feet (44.5x22.5) long and offers coverage for the 6, 10, 20, and 40 meter bands without a tuner. You can also operate 12, 15, 17, and 30 meters plus the WARC bands with the use of a tuner.
B) 10-80 Meters, which is 133 feet (88.5+44.5) long and offers coverage for the 80, 40, 20, and 10 meter bands without a tuner. You can also operate 12, 15, 17, and 30 meters plus the WARC bands with a tuner.
C) 10-160 Meters, which is 270 feet (90+180) long and offers coverage for 160, 80, 40, 20, 17, 12, and 10 meter bands without a tuner. You can also operate 15, 30, and 60 meters plus the WARC bands with a tuner.
All 3 of these Antenna options include the ability to adjust for differing heights and surroundings, which is done by simply trimming the included extra wire from the elements. These antenna options can also be installed in an inverted V configuration, keeping in mind that this design changes the feedpoint impedance and will tune differently.
Note: The 4:1 current balun delivers 200 ohm impedance characteristics for the radiating wire elements, while minimizing common mode current with the dual core design. This 4:1 current balun is not the type used for an Original Windom, which has a vertical coaxial radiator with a choke balun at the end. This design enables the antenna to be fed with a standard 50 ohm coax. A weep hole is also in place on the SO239.
