I was camping in Gettysburg, PA for 10 days. Our site had a low powerline both in front and beside the camper, so my usual antenna was out as I was too afraid it would touch the power lines. I then remembered that I bought a used Basic-FMJ from a friend and set it up. It was clamped to the top of the ladder on the camper and the wire then ran down from 8 feet to around 4-5 feet and was in a sort of L shape going around trees. I really was skeptical about it working as the noise level was high and band conditions were not great. But it sure did work.
I was running 5 watts in CW, FT8 and FT4 modes. A mix of all three. And son of a gun, the darn antenna worked, and it worked very well. The CW stations all gave me very good reports and I was able to rag chew with some of them. I was running mostly 40, 20 and 17m. I was able to work all around the US as well as some DX. I was thrilled!
Based on how well this antenna worked, I suggest it for you too. You will be surprised and very pleased.
