More Information

The whips for the HexTenna Deluxe are telescopic, so as to enable you to adjust them for the band you are using. These whips are angled to change the naturally occurring 72-ohm dipole component to 50 ohms. This is not a ‘no tune all-band antenna’. For example, when deployed for 20 meters, it has two self-supporting telescopic whips that have a total deployed length of about 34 feet. The resonance is naturally occurring as you adjust the whips for the band you would like to operate on. Furthermore, when deployed on 40 meters, then this antenna becomes an M-Dipole that is 35 feet 9 inches on each side.

The HexTenna is a fantastic portable antenna. Extremely easy to set-up. The tripod is easy to adjust with ex-large clamp handles and sturdy. The whips are also sturdy and adjustable. A fellow operator and friend (KE8VQF) made a cheat sheet using Alpha Antenna measurements for the total length of the whips and I use that cheat sheet for faster set-up plus the swr is way low. Yep it is a great antenna and believe it or not the customer service even better. Have questions, you get answers quickly. Have a problem, it gets solved. The antenna maybe a little pricey but the customer service makes up for any additional costs associated with the Hextenna. Would I buy another one? You bet I would, it is that good and just so easy for doing POTA.

I thought it was a bit expensive at first, but after talking to Steve, I figured I’d give Alpha Antennas a chance. I bought the HexTenna with their tripod. It literally took five minutes to get setup, SWR 1.12 to 1 on 20 Meters, and on the air with contacts on both coasts, as well as places North and places South of St. Louis. Some of the videos, actually most of them, do not do the product justice. I am a fan. The thing I found is the quality is there. I will say the whips are the most expensive on the Ham market, but comparing them side by side to the others I have, these are going to last and they are actually 213” so their uses are very flexible for vertical and dipole configurations. I will be buying a couple more to replace my other ones. You get what you pay for or you pay for what you get! 73.

This antenna far surpasses my expectations. It is well-made and allows DX QSL’s and NVIS with little adjustment. I could not be more pleased.

  4. JH

Prompt service. Valuable advice. Quick replacement of faulty part damaged during shipping.

  5. WS

Absolutely excellent experience with the entire process from the website to buying and promptly receiving the Hextenna. I had a question when setting up the antenna and called the company. Steve personally answered the phone and knew exactly how to address
my issue ( which was a misunderstanding on my part ) and said that he would make a video for the website to prevent others from having the same question. He made the short informative video then and there and sent me a copy within minutes.
I have been using the antenna for several weeks now in the 20 meter dipole configuration —-it sits outside in the snow and ice and cold of the Vermont winter and it performs beautifully whether I’m having QSOs around the U.S. or chasing DX with excellent reception and great signal reports.
The quality of the Alpha product is superb as is the quality of their customer support.

Q & A

What is the performance difference between mounting this at 5 feet vs 20 feet? Q A asked on March 30, 2024

5 feet is the minimum optimum height for mounting this above ground and optimum height is 1/4 wavelength. The difference between 5 feet and 20 feet was 1/2 an S-Unit per https://youtu.be/8EbLeiUxJuM

Can the HexTenna be converted to the HexTenna Yagi? Q A asked on March 30, 2024

No. The physical differences of the HexTenna Yagi Hubs are very different than those of the HexTenna, making a conversion impractical.

The Yagi hubs are also built to be mounted on a boom, which the HexTenna hub is not well suited for. Specifically, because they would spin on the hub when against the wind.

Additionally, even the 2 hubs used on the Yagi are built differently from one another. Where one of the hubs is built to be a driven element and the other is built to be a reflector element.
